Custom Framed Picket Fence
Located in the Glenkirk area of Charlotte

"Paying attention to detail is a vital part of both the design and implementation of any project. I pledge to listen to the details you want, to ask appropriate questions, and to not settle for less than the design that makes you completely satisfied."  ~ Todd

This attractive fence is a custom designed framed picket fence and is about 4 1/2 feet tall. The outside and inside of the fence are framed at the top and bottom and there is a running cap on the top of the fence line.

Quality Construction Throughout

Everything is hand made on-site and assembled using high quality exterior deck screws. No nails!
The fence was built with #1 grade, kiln-dried, pressure treated lumber. The panels are supported structurally with 2x4's on the inside, use 1x4's for pickets, and are framed in with more 1x4's on the outside and down the top of each panel.

Quality construction techniques include digging holes at least 2 feet deep and carefully setting posts in clean, straight lines that contour to the grade of the land.

Four quality gates

When standing in the driveway pictured and looking at the fence, the land slopes from right to left and gradually goes downhill as it goes back away from you. The fence lines are carefully built to create straight, even lines, but to also hug the grade of the land. If you look closely at the complex of four gates across the driveway area, they gradually step downward when looking from right to left.

This gate is the primary pedestrian access to the patio and back yard. Notice how the concrete in the hole comes to the surface and slopes away from the post -- many fences fail many years too soon due to wood rot at the base of the posts. This one won't!

This small enclosure with its own gate was requested by the clients to hold their trash can and recycling bin!

Also part of this project...

We widened the driveway, rebuilt the home's crawl space access door, and added 4 cubic yards of organic screened topsoil to the back yard, and overseeded it to help establish a new back yard to go with the new fence!

Progress Photos, Before & After ...

There was a chain link fence which previously ran through the asphalt driveway. We removed the chain link and constructed the new fence around the driveway instead of over it, patching up the old holes and reusing one in the corner. This required careful use of a demolition hammer adjacent to the house's foundation and the aggregate base beneath the back patio.

The new fence has four gate panels: One pedestrian gate to the patio area, a double vehicular gate centered at the top of the driveway, and a gate to a special area made for their trash can & recycling bin.

We patched up some holes where chain link posts used to be, created some new ones, and had one which had to be reused.

Here I used a demolition hammer to carefully remove the chain link post from this hole and create a new hole for a new wooden 4x4 post.

A beautiful and more secure backyard is being framed in by this lovely fence!
