A Little Winterberry Red in Your Winter Landscape

2/1/2016

Did you know there are plants that can make you and your landscape feel brighter with color? The Winterberry, or deciduous holly punctuates winter with its showy berry display.

Some cultivars to look for are ‘Sparkleberry’ or ‘Winter Red.’ The branches can be brought indoors in the winter and used for wreaths or crafts and the berries will last for many months.

In order to get the bright, red berries, you'll need a male within 50 feet or so. The Southern Gentleman is a great plant for this and one plant can pollinate many female Winter Reds.
